4 Steps to Unlock your Child’s Full Potential

Already at the midway point for 2019, your child has most likely just received
feedback on their academic performance so far this year. With half the year’s content
already completed, this feedback is a vital insight into their level of understanding and
can help dictate further development pathways.
If your child’s results did not reflect their efforts, or you’re aware they are capable of
higher results but are unsure how to stimulate their abilities, these four steps will guide
 you on your way!
Each step outlines a practice both you and your child can implement in addition to their
learning at school that will set them on their journey to academic success and unlock
 their full potential.
1. Enrol them in tutoring
Enrolling your child in tutoring sessions outside of the classroom is a perfect strategy to
help them realise their full potential.
Through tutoring, your child receives a far more personal learning experience,
allowing for their strengths and weaknesses to be thoroughly analysed and assessed.
In turn, the work they receive during these sessions is specifically designed to target
their needs in particular, something a classroom education alone cannot offer.

2. Assign time for work AND play
At home, it’s important to create an environment with a healthy balance between work
and play. It’s easy to assume that more work produces better results, but don’t forget
 every student has their limits.
Time away from laptops and textbooks can be just as beneficial. Study breaks can
include sport, movies or cooking family dinners.
Whether you decide to assign a couple of hours per day, or select specific days each
week to study is up to the needs of each individual child. It will take some trial and
error to find out what works best!
3. Have your child set their own goals
Especially for younger students, a parent’s guidance is essential. However, research
indicates that children benefit psychologically when exercising some degree of control
in decision-making processes. Involving your child in academic objective-setting could
make them more inclined to work towards achieving goals.
As a parent/caregiver, you can help to ensure that these goals are achievable. If
you’re finding that your child likes to dream big, then try to help them break their
goals down into smaller tasks – you don’t want to be shutting down those young,
ambitious minds; we want to help tame and direct them!
4. Broaden their experiences
The state of our social, mental, physical and emotional wellbeing are interdependent
 and thrive off each other.
The types of learning your child engages in, not just curriculum content but real-world
experiences, impacts how they absorb knowledge in the classroom.
Additionally, classroom-style learning isn’t the most effective approach for all students
and often activities such as museum visits, nature walks and cultural events are more
successful in helping them realise their full potential.
The key question parents/caregivers ask regarding their child’s academic performance
is how to encourage their child to work to their full potential without pushing them too
 hard.
The secret to unlocking any student’s full potential is to find the learning style that
works best for them, and both students and parents can’t forget – practice makes
perfect! You may not see changes in results right away, but just give it time!
