Our Introduction to Selective Course is a stepping stone to laying a strong foundation for students aiming to succeed in the Selective and Scholarship Placement Tests.

Designed to ease students into advanced preparation, this course focuses on essential skills and common challenges, helping build confidence before they tackle full exam-style content.

By gradually introducing critical thinkinganalytical reasoning, and structured writing skills, students are supported in becoming more confident and independent learners.

Inside our Introduction to Selective Course

The Introduction to Selective Course begins in Term 2 of Year 4 and runs through to the end of Term 1 in Year 5, providing a step-by-step transition into more rigorous exam preparation. Students are introduced to advanced thinking strategies and gain a clear understanding of the structure, expectations, and demands of these competitive exams.

They also begin to explore a range of writing genres, allowing them to develop clarity, creativity, and control in their written expression, skills essential not only for Selective and Scholarship exams but also for the Year 5 NAPLAN.

Our Introduction to Selective Maths Course is designed with Selective & scholarship test preparation in mind. Students begin transitioning from basic arithmetic to more abstract mathematical thinking. This program ensures your child is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

Introduction to Selective Course Schedule

  • Course starts Year 4 Term 2 and continues to Year 5, Term 1
  • Weekly lessons for 10 weeks per term
  • 1.5 hours, per week, per subject (English & Maths)

What’s Included Each Term:

  • Your child will receive a GEA text Book per subject
  • Students complete 2 Assessments for Learning per term. This targeted evaluation helps identify strengths and areas for improvement.
  • In Week 10, students revise key topics from the term, receive final feedback, and reinforce their writing skills.

The entire course aligns with the skills assessed in Year 5 NAPLAN, giving your child a measurable head start for the next stage of their learning.
